Overview
Alcohol consumption refers to the drinking of beverages containing ethanol, commonly known as alcohol. While moderate drinking can be part of social and cultural activities, excessive alcohol consumption poses serious health risks. Excessive drinking includes binge drinking, heavy drinking, and any drinking by pregnant women or individuals under the legal drinking age. Alcohol affects every organ in the body, primarily the brain, liver, heart, and pancreas. It can lead to the development of chronic diseases such as liver cirrhosis, pancreatitis, cardiovascular diseases, and various cancers, including those of the liver, mouth, throat, esophagus, and breast. Additionally, excessive alcohol consumption can weaken the immune system, making the body more susceptible to infections. It can also impair judgment and coordination, increasing the risk of accidents and injuries.
