Urea – Serum
Test Overview
The Urea – Serum test, commonly referred to as the Blood Urea Nitrogen (BUN) test, is a diagnostic tool used to measure the amount of urea nitrogen in the blood. Urea is a waste product formed in the liver from the breakdown of proteins, and it is filtered out of the blood by the kidneys. This test helps evaluate kidney function and can indicate whether the kidneys are working efficiently to remove waste products from the blood.
A Urea serum test is useful in determining how well your kidneys are functioning. It is done by measuring the amount of urea nitrogen in the blood. High levels of urea nitrogen in the blood is a sign of kidney or liver problems.
